Havana, Jan 4 (Prensa Latina) About 700 social-economic projects finished in 2005 as part of the Cuban government´s efforts to improve people´s quality of life, Council of Ministers Vice President Otto Rivero told Granma daily Wednesday.
Rivero said 452 rehabilitation facilities were built while 129 polyclinics were repaired and provided with modern equipment since November 2004, adding that by the end of 2006 the entire health network would be benefited.
For the official, those changes are part of the program called Battle of Ideas, initiated December 1999 during Cuba´s struggle for the return of the child Elian Gonzalez to his father.
The project embraces several social, economic and cultural plans to palpably raise citizens´ standard of living.
In this context, he emphasized the investment program in health, sports and culture, reminding the Revolution has never stopped constructing and repairing its social-economic works over the last 47 years.
In addition, Rivero referred to the construction of sites related to Operation Miracle, through which over 200,000 Latin American and Caribbean people have been benefited with top-quality free eye operations.
