VI World Social Forum and II Social Forum of the Americas-Caracas, Venezuela, January 2006

The 2006 World Social Forum will be polycentric in January 2006, taking place in three countries. Caracas, Venezuela, is the site from January 23-27 for a combined World Social Forum and 2nd Social Forum of the Americas. One of the four themes of the forum is diversity and interculturality, with a focus on indigenous nationalities and Afro-descent people in the Americas. Among the groups participating in the Forum are the Confederation of Indigenous Nations of Venezuela, the Afro-Venezuela Network, the AfroAmerica Foundation, and Venezuela's Ministry of Culture. Events include Afro-Venezuelan music and dance with youth who are reclaiming and celebrating their African heritage.
