Cuba Among the Countries with Higher Life Expectancy

Havana, Jan 8 (AIN/PL) Cuba is among the world’s first 24 countries with higher life expectancy, 77 years, chief of National Program for the Elder Adult, Doctor Enrique Vega said.
Vega added that these outstanding indicators place the Island at the level of developed nations, thanks to the country’s political will that gives priority to human development.

He said that the main challenge to be faced by Cuban society in this current century is to achieve satisfactory longevity, and steps are being taken to extend life expectancy to 80 years, a level only reached by Sweden and Japan.

Doctor Vega is taking part in an international workshop on Life Expectancy at Birth in Cuba, attended by experts from the US, Mexico, Canada, France, Northern Ireland, as well as representatives of the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization.
